Global Health Strategies engaged Newsworthy.Studio to develop a strategy and social media campaign to spread awareness and mobilise people around the importance of drug adherence when it comes to combating Lymphatic filariasis (LF).

Filaria affects 119 million people living in 73 countries, with India accounting for 40% of the cases. Despite its debilitating physical, social and economic effects, LF is called a ‘Neglected’ Tropical Disease, largely because the mosquito-borne disease hits relatively neglected sections. India is intent on changing the narrative and eliminating filaria by 2027. A key step towards a #FilariaFreeIndia is an annual Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign.

The Challenge

Spread awareness about the Government of India’s Mass Drug Administration campaign against Lymphatic Filariasis

The Outcome

Month-long multi-format social media campaign for government and other stakeholders

Building Community Will for a #FilariaFreeIndia

Through communication tailored for various stakeholders including government handles, we were successful in bringing renewed attention to NTDs, building community will and putting individuals at the centre of the response. Our social media campaign included curation of long form reads, first-person stories from patients and survivors, expert views, factsheets and public service announcements about the February 10 MDA, including innovative approaches adopted by states to build a #FilariaFreeIndia.
