Newsworthy.Studio was selected to be a part of FactShala Innovation Lab, a six-month programme to incubate media literacy interventions, run by DataLEADS with support from Google News Initiative. We used design thinking to take on a concerning lack of democratic, voter, and media literacy skills among young people on the eve of India’s 2024 general elections. During our time at the Lab, we developed ‘Democracy in 2 Minutes’, an informational content IP to foster civic engagement and critical thinking among the youth.
Low civic engagement and awareness about workings of democracy among India’s young voters
#DemocracyInTwoMinutes, a multimedia campaign on media, electoral and democratic literacy for first-time voters
In the lead up to the Lok Sabha polls, we created a series of 12 short and fun youth-led videos on topics ranging from fake news, exit polls, defection, and NOTA to how polls function at the state and national levels and why each vote matters. These videos garnered over 70,000+ views in three months after they went live. We augmented our campaign through an Instagram collaboration with Nyaaya, an open access, digital resource on Indian laws & rights of citizens.
